Alan Dwight Busby, 80, of Grantsville, MD, passed away on January 20, 2026, at Dennett Rehab Center. Born on March 12, 1945, in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Dwight and Betty (Kohl) Busby.
Alan's life was a long and winding journey that ultimately brought him to the serene town of Oakland, Maryland. Born the son of a military man, he spent his early years traveling across the United States with his family, experiencing the country's diversity through frequent moves. He settled in Arizona, where his daughter, Jennifer, was born, marking a period of greater stability in his career as a dedicated architect. After many years of designing and building, Alan retired and chose the peaceful, scenic surroundings of Oakland, nestled in Garrett County amid natural beauty, lakes, and mountains, as his final home. There, he formed a deep and cherished friendship with Danny and Regina Kauffman, who provided unwavering support and compassionate care during his later years until he peacefully passed away. Throughout his life, Alan found joy in the simple pleasures of camping, fishing, immersing himself in the great outdoors, and losing himself in a good book.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Busby, and her fiancé, Steve Wood of Frederick, MD; and two grandchildren, Nathan Johnson of Fairfax, VA, and Liam Johnson of Deerfield Beach, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Paula Jayne Goralczyk, who resided in Phoenix, AZ.
Alan's request for cremation was honored. There are no services scheduled at this time.
The Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A. - Oakland Chapel is honored to be serving the Busby family.
