Anna Margaret Cangley

In Loving Memory of Anna Margaret Cangley (Davis), but known in this community as Granny. May 22, 1929 - August 28, 2026

Ann, beloved matriarch and the heart of our family, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on August 28, 2026, at the age of 97.

Across nearly a century of life, Ann built a legacy defined by unconditional love, quiet strength, and an open-door heart. Born in Tucker County in 1929, she lived through eras of profound change, anchoring everyone around her with her quick wit, wise counsel, and grace.

Throughout her 97 years, she embraced life, living each day to its fullest. She taught generations of her family the value of hard work, the healing power of laughter, and the importance of pulling up an extra chair to the table for anyone who needed it. Her home was a sanctuary, her kitchen was always warm, and her listening ear was unmatched. Many in Thomas will remember her peanut butter fudge, chocolate cake with caramel icing, and pumpkin cookies just to name a few.

Family was everything to Granny. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Donald "Pork" Cangley; children, Victor Mazitis and Betsy Cangley; and son-in-law, John Cangley. She is survived by four children, Ronald Cangley (Jacie), Douglas Cangley (Tracy), Lisa Huffman (Carl), and Mark Cangley (Bethany); her 11 grandchildren, Cynthia (Michael), Vicki (Casey), Derek (Alisa), Tyler (Sam), Lauren, Colton (Lauren), Ryan, Sydney, Seth (Courtney), Emerson, and Callee; ten great-grandchildren, Paige, Ava, Claire, Clyde, Westyn, Ryden, Mallory, Parker, Iestyn, and Cora; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Thomas on September 12 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. Granny loved her years of being a cook at DTEMS and was proud to be known as Granny to the children during and after their school years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the DTEMS Playground Fund. Donations can be mailed to the school with "DTEMS Playground Fund" in the memo line.
