Beverly Jean Sincell

Beverly Jean Sincell (70), of Oakland, passed away in the early morning of Thursday, June 30, 2026, at her residence. Born August 15, 1955, to the late Reverend James and Jo Ann Remley, Bev graduated from Southern High School in 1973 and went on to earn a Bachelors from West Virginia Wesleyan, a Masters of Social Work from West Virginia University, and a Masters of Education (Guidance and Counseling) from Frostburg State University. Initially employed as a reporter for The Republican Newspaper, Bev then served as a counselor for most of her career, first with the Garrett County Health Department and then with the Garrett County Public Schools. In 1977, Bev married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Ben) Sincell, Jr, and together they were blessed with three children and four grandchildren. Bev loved singing, baking, the outdoors, and all of her family. She was a devoted Christian and lived Jesus’s love in every moment. Together with her siblings and parents, she performed gospel music as part of The Remley Family Singers, and she served for many years in the church choir of Bethel United Methodist Church. Bev always had a ready song to comfort, humor, and uplift others. Bev was meticulous in her work and in her hobbies. When she discovered her need for a modified diet, she took classes in New York City and created her own recipes for allergy-free delights. She used her knowledge and skills to bake for family and to sell at the Mountain Fresh Farmers Market. Bev was always willing to explore baking for someone with particular needs and had great joy being able to provide for others. Most in the community remember Bev for her calm patience and kindness, which were extraordinary and present in all aspects of her life. Her family also remembers her more mischievous side, which was silly and joyful; the twinkle in her eye and the contagiousness of her giggle when pulling a lighthearted prank or joke with her family remain fond and bittersweet treasures. Bev is survived by her husband, Ben; her children, Daniel (wife Shanna), Angie (partner Aaron Shotwell), and Miriam (husband Robert Burton, Jr); her grandchildren, Ethan, Serena, Eme, and Nora; her siblings; and many nieces and nephews. She was an active and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, colleague, mentor, and community member who treated everyone with dignity, regularly spoke to the beauty of nature and life, and sought to honor and follow the love and light of her Savior. A service will be arranged at Bethel United Methodist Church in the future; in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to The Dove Center (mail to 882 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD 21550) or to the Southern Garrett High School Alumni Association (Memo: Beverly Sincell Scholarship, mail to 345 Oakland Drive, Oakland, MD 21550).
