Charles M. Culp, 84, of Bayard, passed away on October 3, 2026, at home. Born on December 6, 1941, in Bayard, he was the son of the late Lester and Ruby (Harvey) Culp.
Charles attended Bayard School and proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964 during Cuban Crisis and the United States Army Reserves from 1964 to 1967. He was a devoted member of Parsons Church of God and served as a union organizer and president of the local UMWA. He worked as a coal miner for Island Creek Coal and Consol. In his leisure time, Charles enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and tending to his flower garden.
He is survived by his loving companion, Maryann Sharp; one son, Vince E. Culp and wife Darla of Bayard; two grandchildren, Joshua Culp of Mt. Storm and Kelly Garland and husband Jayson of Hagerstown, MD; and one great-grandchild, Elliott Paige Garland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ruby Kate Anthony Culp, to whom he was married on August 9, 1961; his son, Charles M. Culp Jr.; his grandson, Kalin E. Culp; and siblings, Shirley Severe, Kenny Culp, and John Culp.
According to Charles wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral. A graveside military service will be held at the Bayard Cemetery on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 12:30 PM.
