Cynthia Stem, 71, of Mount Storm, passed away on November 17, 2025. Born on January 23, 1954, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence L. and Shirley F. (Stonesifer) Stem.
Cynthia, a proud graduate of Southern Garrett High School and Frostburg State University, devoted her career to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher in Garrett County, where her patience and warmth left a lasting mark on generations of students. A faithful member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, she carried her quiet faith into everything she did. Cynthia lived for her beach trips-those long, sun-soaked days with sand between her toes and the sound of waves washing away every worry. She was never far from a good book, often curled up with one in her favorite chair, and she cheered louder than anyone at the games and matches of her nieces and nephews, always slipping an extra novel or two into their hands to make sure they grew up loving stories as much as she did. To her family, she was the aunt who made ordinary moments feel like adventures and who believed that a good book and a day at the ocean could fix just about anything.
She is survived by her siblings, Gregory Stem and wife Kim, Karl Stem, Kennith Stem and wife Patty, Thomas Stem and wife LaDonna, Scott Stem and wife Komathi, John Stem and wife Loretta, Martha Hayhurst and husband Tom, Cheryl Yommer and husband Tim, Kathy Mattingly and husband Tom, Sheila Hetrick and husband Dale, and Deborah Showe and husband Albert; brother in law, Anthony Hamrick; sister in law, Sue Stem; thirty nieces and nephews; thirty five great nieces and nephews; and her beach buddies, Linda Fike and Bonnie Broadwater.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Michael W. Stem, Jeffrey A. Stem, and Victoria L. (Stem) Hamrick; a sister-in-law, Tammy Stem; a niece, Shekinah Hamrick; and a nephew, Jonathan Stem.
Cynthia's request for cremation was honored. Friends will be received on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 11 AM to 1 PM, in the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A. - Oakland Chapel.
