Donald Shiflett, Sr., 86, of Bayard, WV, passed away on March 10, 2026, with his family by his side. Born on February 20, 1940, in Weaver, WV, he was the son of the late John Dallas and Bertha Juanita (Robey) Shiflett.

A dedicated coal miner, Don spent more than 32 years underground with Island Creek Coal Company, where his hard work, reliability, and quiet strength earned him deep respect among his fellow workers. A proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), he carried the values of solidarity, perseverance, and brotherhood throughout his life. When not in the mines, Don found joy in the simpler pleasures-casting lines into favorite fishing spots, tracking game through the hills during hunting season, losing himself in a good book, and crafting his own stories. His words and his wit will live on in the memories of those who knew him best.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Brenda D. Shiflett, Danny Shiflett, Sheena Shiflett, Robert J. Shiflett, Shawn E. Shiflett, Timothy A. Whitacre, Malisha C. Gay, and Dusty R. Whitacre, along with numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Juanita J. (Wegman) Shiflett; his children, Donald R. Shiflett, Jr., and Janice Jean Hartman; and a grandson, Jamie L. Shiflett.

Friends will be received on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM, at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A. - Oakland Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Sam Moon officiating. Interment will follow in the Bayard Cemetery.
