Eva T. Wilson

Eva Tubbs Wilson, 99, of Oakland, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Goodwill Retirement Community. Born on June 3, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William Johnston Tubbs, Jr. and Frances Williams. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Johnston Tubbs, and his wife Gail.

Eva completed her early schooling in Cumberland, then graduated from Upper Darby H.S.in Philadelphia, PA. She went on to attend and graduate from the Nursing School of Methodist Hospital (also in Philadelphia) in 1946, as part of the last class of the Cadet Nursing Corps. Back in Cumberland, Eva served as Head Nurse for the Labor and Delivery Room for 30 years, and later as Nursing Administrator for the Cumberland Memorial Hospital.

She retired from nursing in 1992 with many fond memories and stories, including that of scrubbing the back of movie star Henry Fonda at Methodist Hospital while he was in Philadelphia performing. Eva was simply doing her job and was surprised to learn of her patient's identity from fellow nurses gathered outside the treatment room. She also enjoyed travel, often visiting her children, flew in a helicopter to walk on a glacier in Alaska, and took part in a 2000 mission trip to Israel and Palestine. In addition to travel, Eva enjoyed reading and gardening.

She is a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cumberland, and after moving to the Oakland area, she attended church at Bethel United Methodist Church. Throughout her life, she was a prayer warrior.

After retirement she had a blessed life of prayer, church, travel, friends and family. In the end she was cared for by that same community plus the caring folks of the Goodwill Mennonite Home and the Bethel United Methodist Women.

Finally, Eva, affectionately known as "Gooma," fervently loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and very recently shared hugs and smiles with her newest great-granddaughter.

Eva is survived by her children, son George Wilson and wife Lisa, daughter Karen Zajd, daughter Suzanne Hunt, son Carl Wilson and wife Dixi, and daughter Sandra Rodeheaver and husband Mark; her grandchildren, Chelsea, Cody and wife Caroline, Natalie and husband Brendan, Christopher and wife Ismini, Rachel and husband David, Katherine and husband Jonathan Josiah, Zachary and wife Jessica, Jacob and wife Jennifer, Martin and wife Emily, Adam, Ethan and wife Audrey, Benjamin and Abbi, Thaddaeus, and EunAe; and her 18 great grandchildren, Margot, Sloane, Sebastian, Persephone, Alexander, Harris, Ames, Caleb, Marjorie, Olivia, Benjamin, Samuel, Adalynn, Juliette, Paton, Marty, Daniel, and Violet; nephew, Andrew and wife Rebecca; niece, Sarah; great nephews and nieces, Emeline, Annaliese, Isobel, and Jack.

According to her wishes, Eva will be cremated, and on June 3rd, 2027, on what would have been her 100th birthday, a memorial celebration will be held. Service details will be updated as they become available. Private interment will be in the Hillcrest Burial Park, Cumberland.
