James Bruce Hedrick

James Bruce Hedrick, Sr., 82, of Elkins, West Virginia, passed from this life on June 18, 2026. Born on March 10, 1944, in Red Creek, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James Willie and Gladys Hedrick.

Jim was a proud graduate of Mountaineer High School in Davis, West Virginia. A hardworking man of many talents, he built a meaningful life through home construction, trucking, logging, and various other occupations. He was a member of the Flanagan Hill Church, where he lived out his faith through quiet, steadfast service to his family and friends. Known affectionately as "Mud" in his youth, Jim found joy in hunting, gardening, and woodworking. He also took great pride in coaching a local softball team-a roster that included several of his own children, with the rest of his family cheering faithfully from the sidelines.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Kathryne (Berry) Hedrick, whom he married on August 20, 1977. He leaves behind a legacy through his children: James B. Hedrick, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Clarksville, TN; Sherry Hedrick-Campise and husband Matt of Crocker, MO; Thomas Hedrick and wife Amber of Mechanicsville, MD; Wesley Hedrick and wife Courtney of Alexandria, VA; Jeffrey Crittenden of Thomas, WV; Michelle Kalar and husband Joe of Kerens, WV; and Mera Kunkel and husband William "Bill" of New Martinsville, WV; as well as Wanda (Bonner) Jernigan of Colonial Beach, VA. He was the proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is also survived by his siblings: Richard Hedrick of Kenova, WV; Audrey Nelson of Dry Fork, WV; Rose Bennett and husband Bob of Red Creek, WV; Betty Bonner and husband Jim of Bowden, WV; Jack Hedrick and wife Jean of Dry Fork, WV; Judy Smith and husband Dean of Red Creek, WV; and John Hedrick and wife Faye of Red Creek, WV; along with numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

Jim's request for cremation was honored, and a celebration of life will be held on August 7, 2026, at 4 PM, in the Flanagan United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jonathan Hedrick. The family would like to thank you for your prayers and cards.
