Obituary

Ms. Janice Elva Judy, age 81, of Terra Alta, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026. Ms. Judy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 16, 1944, to the late Hamilton Weeks and the late Emily Liller.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her mother by heart, Elva Clayton Liller; one brother, Paul "Duffy" Wolfe; her children's father, Donald Lee Upole Sr.; and her second husband, Jimmie Judy.

To know Janice was to love and be loved by her. She was well known in her community, and it was well known that she touched the lives of all those who crossed her path. Janice was a helper, publicly and privately; it was what she did best. She proudly served as a member of the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department, would walk for hours and hours through numerous cemeteries, laying flags on veterans’ graves, and would advocate wherever she could for her beloved veteran friends. She was a member of V.F.W. Post 10077 for over 50 years. She served as district president several times over the years and was a chartered member of the women’s auxiliary for her years of service. In Janice's spare time, she could be found hand-stitching pieces quietly for her quilting projects. She enjoyed making lap throws and quilts for veterans and other elderly residents in nursing homes. History and historic places were her favorite things to explore, and her love of travel led her to visit many sites across the United States. Janice loved, that's what she did - people, friends, family, veterans, and her cats and dogs! She definitely left a mark on everyone she encountered and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her significant other, Jeff Casseday; one daughter, Cindi Jane (Phil) Green; two sons, Donald Lee (Lesa) Upole Jr. and Robert Dale Upole; two sisters, Susan (Steve) Royal and Barbara Givler; seven grandchildren, Traci (Christopher), Kristi (Henry), Michelle (Jesse), Tiffany (Johnnie), Joe(Kaitlyn), B.J. (Heather), Barry (Mariah); twenty four great grandchildren, Landon, Lane, Tesse, Maddox, Kaylee, Nadia, Monique, Jerod, Dusty, Roman, Alexandra, Nick, Elijah, Preston, Easton, Jaxon, Addie, Keydon, Kenston, Kylan, Kayzen, Lillieanah, Maverick, Lexus; her life long best friend, Renee Shaffer; grandchildren by heart, April and Shane ( children of Renee Shaffer).

In accordance with her wishes, Ms. Judy was cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 2 PM, in the V.F.W. Post 10077.
