Larry Matthew Stemple Sr.

Larry Matthew Stemple, Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 2, 2026, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 18, 1946, in Parsons, WV. Larry lived a life defined by faith, service, family, and honor. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, and through other missions in Japan, Thailand, and Alaska. Larry distinguished himself through courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to duty. Throughout his military career, he earned numerous decorations and commendations, having served as Crew Chief of Maintenance for Air Force One during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Larry proudly retired with the rank of Master Sergeant (MSGT).

Following his military service, Larry continued to live by the values that guided him throughout his life-integrity, hard work, humility, and compassion; and he strived to pass on those values to the young men he encountered as a correctional officer at the Davis Center, now, Kenneth "Honey" Rubenstein Juvenile Center. He was admired by alll who knew him for his strength of character, quiet wisdom, and willingness to help others. Above all else, Larry cherished his family. He was the devoted husband of Emma Margaret (Shupp) Stemple, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and cherished memories. Larry is remembered for the tireless work and dedication he poured into building the house that he and his wife made their home, where they have shared the last two decades of their lives together. Together, they built a strong and loving family that remains his enduring legacy. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Twyla Stemple of Parsons, an infant brother, David; his beloved Golden Retrievers Chief, Copper, Sandy, and Chase, and his notorious toilet-paper-eating cat "Lord Lardball" (Reggie).

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Emma; his children, Matt (Kasey) Stemple, Lynn Gidley (companion Randy), and Jonathan (Charla) Stemple; and his grandson, Brent (Wendy) Gidley, whom he proudly helped raise as a son. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley (companion Cyndall), Kyle (companion Chloe), Kayla, Nick (companion Chelsea), Brooklyn, Savannah (Tyler), Zach, and Hunter; and by his great-grandchildren, Cianna, Rowan, Delilah, Reid, Colt, Nash, Avery, Emersyn, Zechariah, Isaiah, Rileigh, Matthew, Keaton, and Liam. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members, dear friends, and the four-legged friends he proudly called his "Grand-Pups" who will deeply miss his presence, wisdom, guidance, and treats.

A faithful Christian, Larry found strength and comfort in his relationship with God throughout his life. His faith was evident in the way he treated others-with kindness, grace, and generosity. He lived as an example of Christian devotion and proudly served as a life-long member of the Leadmine Community Church and CERT team. Larry leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.

Though our hearts are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Savior. His life of service, love, and faith will never be forgotten.

Friends will be received on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the Fredlock and Fenner Funeral Homes -Davis Chapel, from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held also at the funeral home on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11 AM, with Pastor Brad Barton officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Davis Cemetery.
