Leona Dixon

February 25, 1951 — December 10, 2025

Aurora

Leona Genevieve Dixon, 74, of Aurora, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on February 25, 1951-though, as her mother always lovingly insisted, February 24-she was the daughter of the late Rodney and Virginia (Thomas) Pike.

At the heart of Leona's life was her marriage and family. She was devoted to her husband of 37 years, Michael Dixon, to whom she was married on July 30, 1988. Their life together was built on deep love, faith, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Leona was Michael's constant support, his partner in every sense, and the steady presence at the center of their home. She poured her heart into their life together, finding joy in the simple routines, shared dreams, and quiet moments that defined their marriage.

Leona was an extraordinary mother whose love for her children knew no bounds. She nurtured, guided, and fiercely supported them, always putting their needs before her own. Her home was a place of comfort, encouragement, and unconditional love. As a grandmother, she was nothing short of remarkable, delighting in every milestone and moment of her grandchildren's lives. She was their biggest cheerleader, a gentle teacher, and a steady source of warmth and reassurance. Her love for her family was the greatest joy of her life and the legacy she cherished most.

Leona also devoted her heart and her life to serving others through education. For decades, Aurora School was her second home, a place she deeply cherished. Teaching was never just a career-it was her calling. She shaped generations of students with patience, kindness, and steady guidance. Her students meant the world to her, and she carried pride in their growth and success long after they left her classroom.

A natural listener, Leona had a rare gift for making people feel truly heard. She was endlessly supportive, offering encouragement, wisdom, and comfort whenever it was needed. Her faith was central to who she was, guiding her choices and anchoring her through every season of life. She lived her beliefs quietly but faithfully, finding strength, purpose, and peace in her relationship with God.

Leona loved to travel and delighted in discovering new places, but no destination ever compared to being surrounded by her family. Whether gathered around the table, sharing laughter, or enjoying an ordinary evening at home, these were the moments she treasured most.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Dixon; her children, Charles "Chad" Baker and wife Kerri of Oakland, Gretchen Baker and wife Alexandra of Aurora, and William Dixon of Aurora; eight grandchildren, Tristan Baker, Bryson Baker, Austin Baker and partner Alex Cathers, Brooklyn Baker, Cruz Baker, Cade Baker, Jackson Baker, and Sean Baker; two great-grandchildren, Branson Baker and Averlee Baker; and her siblings, Fred Pike and wife Brenda, Rick Pike and wife Debbie, and Ronnie Pike and wife Shirley; and her best friend, June Sisler and husband Mike.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Joan Stump, Rodney Pike, Donna Gregory, and Joyce Pike.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A., Oakland Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Lantz officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aurora School. A Celebration of Life dinner will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Community Center.
