Maria Michelene Johnson

Maria "Mitsi" Michelene Johnson, 71, of Oakland, passed away on June 20, 2026, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Born on February 12, 1955, in Fort Riley, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Hayden and Patsy Ruth Curtis.

Mitsi graduated from Louisiana Tech with her Master's Degree. She worked as a high school teacher in Louisiana, and later became a girl scout professional working for and retiring from the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada. She enjoyed traveling, reading, watching basketball, (she loved the Spurs), playing with her grandchildren and she enjoyed singing.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Eugene Neil Johnson, Jr.; her daughter, Jessica Elizabeth Reneau and husband Colby, and step daughter, Jennifer Marie Warren; grandchildren, Jackson Hunter Warren, Wayne Curtis Reneau, Hayden Ryan Reneau; and brother, Walter Curtis and wife Manuela of Colorado.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Li Nelson and husband Mike Nelson.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes- Oakland Chapel, 21 N. St., Oakland, from 11AM - 1PM.
