Marina Christine Swan, 73, of Eglon, died on January 18, 2026, at her residence. Born on December 11, 1952, in St. Paul, MN, she was the daughter of the remarkably kind and beautiful Joan Carolyn (Christensen) Swan, as well as her late father, the intelligent Dr. Robert Irving Swan
Marina was a graduate of Logan High School. She attended Concord University and continued her studies at Marshall University, earning her bachelor's degree in biology. Marina began her professional life as a skilled dental assistant before embracing the role she cherished most-stay-at-home mother and dedicated homemaker. She found great joy in simple, meaningful pursuits: listening to her beloved music and carefully curating her vinyl records; reading cookbooks and faithfully replicating their recipes; and mastering the art of gardening, herbology, and home canning with produce she grew herself. An expert cook and legendary baker, she created a kitchen of magic where flavors and memories were lovingly crafted. Marina was especially gifted in embroidery, creating intricate, beautiful designs with needle and thread, and she delighted in watching psychological thriller films and playfully pulling lighthearted pranks on those she loved. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of intellect, artistry, family devotion, and quiet creativity, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughters, Rachel Michelle Carnal of Fairmont, Amanda Christina Carnal of Eglon, Anna Marie Carnal of Eglon, and Jennifer Joan Carnal of Duck; grandchildren, Xavier Michael Carnal and Gerald Lynn Kelly III; siblings, Rebecca Swan of Logan, WV, Bobby Swan and wife Teri Hale of Lexington, NC, and Brenda Swan Hall of Putney, KY.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Michael Carnal; her sister, Patty Swan, and her husband, Ernie Browning; and her brother-in-law, James Hall.
Marina's request for cremation was honored. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes - Davis Chapel is honored to be serving Marina's family.
