Marvin Eugene "Dino" Guthrie, 56, of Mtn. Lake Park, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Born July 30, 1969, at Fort Dix, New Jersey, to the late Marvin Galen and Sylvia May (Smith) Guthrie, who survives. He got his nickname, Dino, from his maternal grandmother. Being a bit more mischievous than his older brothers, she called him Dino, and it stuck with him all his life.
Dino grew up near Oakland and graduated from Southern Garrett High School in 1987. He joined the Maryland Army National Guard the next year. During his enlistment, he was a heavy construction equipment operator and was ordered to active duty in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
After Dino fulfilled his military enlistment in 1995, he managed an 84 Lumber store in Kentucky. He also became a skilled carpenter. After returning to Garrett County, Dino worked for Bill's Marine Service as parts manager for 20 years. Most recently, Dino was self-employed and worked alongside his wife as a general contractor doing property maintenance throughout Garrett County.
Dino met his loving soulmate and future wife, Vicki (Sukow) Guthrie, in August, 2000. They were inseparable for 26 years, marrying in 2005. Together they have three children; Trey Kight (Sequoia Davis), Taya Guthrie (Dvon Joseph), and Marvin Tyler Guthrie, all of Oakland. Dino and Vicki proudly welcomed three precious grandchildren over the last few years; Cherish Kight, Orion Kight, and Savannah Joseph. Dino was a loving husband and father, and he enjoyed any time spent with his family, especially those little grandkids who lovingly called him Pop Pop. He loved baking cookies with his granddaughters and spending valuable time with his friends, Raschell and Albert Zipp.
Dino made friends wherever he went. He had a sharp wit about him that everyone loved. Many recall leaving visits with Dino with their sides hurting from all the laughter. He bowled for many years and enjoyed snowmobile riding. He was known for his strong political views and was always ready for a good debate. Family fondly remembers Dino's famous peanut butter fudge. He made it for many family celebrations, and it was a delicious treat enjoyed by all.
In addition to his mother, Sylvia, and loving wife, Vicki, Dino leaves behind a sister-in-law, Teresa Guthrie, Mtn. Lake Park; one brother, Norman (Glenna) Guthrie, Deer Park; two sisters, Sonya (Preston) Boerner, Westernport, and Christie (Jason) Reckart, Oakland. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as many great friends.
In addition to his father, Marvin Galen Guthrie, he was preceded in death by his brother, Quintin Guthrie.
