Maxine Gower

Maxine Florence (Dillsworth) Gower, 81, of Oakland, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation with family at her side. Born on April 2, 1944, in Rowlesburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Marko and Hazel Florence (Ark) Dillsworth.

She was Pentecostal by faith. Maxine enjoyed crocheting, planting flowers and gardening. She will be lovingly remembered for her excellent cooking. In addition to spending time with her family, especially watching the kids play ball on Saturdays, she loved seeing birds.

She is survived by her sons, Ray Gower of Terra Alta, WV, and Robert Gower of Oakland; grandchildren, Bobby Gower, Billy Gower, and Cody Gower, all of Oakland; great grandchildren, Axel and Brier, and one on the way; a sister, Shirley Schrock; two brothers, Eddie Dillsworth and Albert Dillsworth; and a number of nieces and nephews,

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Guy Gower, in 2015; her step-mother, May Dillsworth; a daughter in law, Debbie Gower; two sisters, Leona Arlene Wilt and Helen Blizzard; and a niece, Connie Schrock.

Friends will be received on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 10 to 11 AM at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes - Oakland Chapel, 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD. A funeral service will take place at 11 AM with Pastor Tom Strahin officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
