Michael Roy "Green" Helmick, 73, of Thomas, passed away on June 11, 2026, at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Born on January 30, 1953, in Parsons, he was the son of the late Walter S. and Sharlene (Carr) Helmick.
Michael "Green" Helmick lived a life rich with curiosity, creativity, and connection. He found deep joy in the outdoors, whether casting a line while fishing, tracking game on a hunt, perfecting his swing on the golf course, quietly observing birds in their natural habitat, or losing himself beneath the night sky as an avid astronomer. A lifelong lover of music, he brought energy and happiness to those around him as a DJ, entertaining others and sharing his passion with family and friends in ways that turned ordinary gatherings into lasting memories.
Equally gifted with a creative mind and skilled hands, Michael loved to build, tinker, and bring ideas to life. Whether crafting something with purpose or simply for the pleasure of creation, he approached every project with imagination and care. His many hobbies reflected the essence of who he was-an adventurous spirit with a boundless appreciation for life's simple pleasures and a heart that found wonder in both the grand and the everyday.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol Ann (Watring) Helmick, to whom he was married on April 21, 1972; two children, Michelle R. Snyder and husband Todd, and Amanda R. Simmons and huband Alan; six grandchildren, Brittiny L Cross and husband Scott, Summer Dawn Greene and husband Jack, Wesley T Snyder and wife Elizabeth, Katlyn B. Simmons, Drew M. Simmons, and Morgan G. Simmons; three great grandchildren, Luke and Clay Cross, and Nash Greene, along with two on the way; five siblings, Joyce Wilson, Patty Stukey, Brenda Lipscomb, Janet Goldman and husband Mark, and Janice Richards; In addition to his family and friends, he leaves behind his beloved dogs - JR and Bubba who brought him endless companionship, joy, and unconditional love. They were a cherished part of his daily life and held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Robert "Bob" Helmick, Sandra Mason, and Walter "Junior" Helmick; loving father and mother in law, Bud and Lou Watring; five brothers in law, Jerry Wilson, Ken Stukey, Burl Mason, Forrest Lipscomb, and Joe Richards; and sister in law, Gail Helmick.
Friends will be received on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2 to 5 PM, at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes - Davis Chapel. After the visitation, Mike's request for cremation will be honored.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held on July 4, 2026, at his residence on Brown Street in Thomas from 2 to 5 PM.
