Paula Jane Browning, 70, of Terra Alta, WV, went on to be with the Lord on Monday, October 27, 2025, in her home at Alpine Lake. Born on January 15, 1955, in Oakland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Donald M. and Edith D. (Fauber) Browning.
She was baptized and attended St. Paul's Methodist Church in Oakland. After completing Southern High School, she graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art. She then started a career in Engineering, Research, and Design for Campbell's Soup. Later in life, Paula returned to Garrett County, where she most recently drove the patient shuttle for Mountain Laurel Medical Center. She was a member of the Garrett County Arts Council where she sold her artwork, taught workshops, and was honored with a one-woman show. She wrote and illustrated a children's book, and, in 2021, she produced a Mandala art coloring book. She loved sharing her artwork with friends by designing her own Christmas card every year. Her home reflected her love of art as it was a showcase of works, both her own and other artists. Paula was a masterful storyteller and a keeper of family history; she could captivate you by weaving the two together. She had a piercing stare that simultaneously sized you up and searched your soul. She was ever rebellious with a wry sense of humor and a laugh to match that never failed to put a smile on anyone's face. Paula enjoyed Janis Joplin, Coronas and made a mean margarita.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert E. Browning. Paula is survived by her brothers, Donald M. “Mac” Browning Jr. and wife Karen and James Browning and wife Charlene, and sister-in-law, Jeannie Browning, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and hordes of friends.
According to her wishes, Paula was cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paula’s name may be made to Cindy’s Fund, PO Box 182, Oakland, MD 21550. The Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A. – Oakland is honored to be assisting the Browning family.
