Roger Lewis

Roger Lee Lewis, 82, of Oakland, passed away peacefully at his home on December 17, 2025. Born on June 19, 1943, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Oliver and Juanita (Rexroad) Lewis.

Roger graduated from Southern Garrett High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Army and served for 3 years. Roger was a police officer for the town of Oakland and retired after 32 years. He proudly served both our country and our town. He was always devoted to giving as much as he could to others, and that is the legacy he leaves behind.

In his spare time, he loved to fish, hunt, and work on cars. He also enjoyed taking his family on camping trips to Moorefield. He loved telling stories and making his family and friends laugh.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary (Richter) Lewis; daughter-in-law, Melinda Lewis; grandchildren, Evan and Serena Lewis; siblings, Ron Lewis, Connie Lewis, Bob Lewis and wife Janice, and brother-in-law, Harold Murphy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Lewis; siblings, Delores Murphy, Clifford Lewis, and Ed Lewis; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Lewis and Violet Lewis.

Roger's wishes to be cremated were honored, and no services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Cindy's Fund, PO Box 182, Oakland, MD 21550, and Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
