Royce "Hippie" George Moreland, 72, of Oakland, passed away at his home on July 1, 2026, with his family by his side. Born on March 14, 1954, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Roy and Selma (Jordan) Moreland.
Royce was a lifelong truck driver for Moreland Trucking, LLC, where he built lasting friendships across the many miles he traveled. He attended Fairview Covenant Brethren Church, where he found strength and community in his faith.
In his free time, Royce loved working on motors, tractors, race trucks, mud trucks, and cars. He took pride in building roads on his farm, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was skilled at working on and rebuilding any of his heavy machinery. He also cherished time spent gambling and making memories with his family from Gettysburg.
He is survived by his wife, Vonda (Loughry) Moreland, to whom he was married on July 9, 1976; his children, Royce Brandon Moreland and wife Laura, Marrella Nikkol Ashby and husband David, and Candy Degiovanni and husband Mike, all of Oakland; grandchildren, Braxton Warsaw, Mason Moreland, Brena Ashby, Laurel Degiovanni, Natalie Ashby, Kaylea Ashby; Siblings, Roy Moreland, Judy Ragione and husband Frank, Bonnie Zimmerman, Elmer Moreland and wife Jane, Allen Moreland and wife Kim; special friends from Gettysburg, Eddie Moreland and his late wife Pam, Eddie Joe and wife Kelly, and Jackie Willard and husband Denny.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madison Warsaw, and his siblings, Jeff Moreland, John Moreland, and David Moreland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cindy's Fund or Hospice of Garrett County.
Friends will be received on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 3 to 6 PM, at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A. - Oakland Chapel. Following the visitation, a truck parade will start at 6:30 PM on 219 South, on the berm across from Corks Cars, then turn onto 50 East, going past Royce's home place.
