Thomas Graybill

Thomas John Graybill, 83, of Oakland, MD, passed away on December 2, 2025, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on March 16, 1942, in York, PA, he was the son of the late John and Edna (Senft) Graybill and younger brother of the late William Graybill.

Tom graduated from Spring Grove Area HS, obtained his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh where he was part of the percussion line of the marching band and sang in the Heinz Chapel Choir. He received his Master's Degree from St. Louis University. He worked as a Speech - Language Pathologist for the Northampton County PA public schools and was a professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He moved to Oakland in 1976 and worked for the Garrett County Health Department, and Garrett County Schools.

He was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir, the Garrett Organization for the Handicapped, Garrett Choral Society, Garrett Community Concert Band, and the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival. He enjoyed gardening, singing and playing percussion, and visiting his family.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne (Coughlin) Graybill; daughters, Alison Hefferan and husband Mike of West Chester, PA, Kerry Heinze and husband Chris of Frederick, MD; grandchildren, Kieran, Gavin, and Ronan Hefferan, Erin, Evan, and Owen Heinze.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed serving the children of Garrett County, and supporting those with special needs of all ages who liked to call him "Mr. Tom." Those who spent time with Tom knew him to be gentle, kind, and always good for a laugh. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

His wishes to be cremated has been honored, and no services are scheduled. The Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes, P.A.- Oakland Chapel, is honored to be serving the Graybill family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the House of Hope or Appalachian Crossroads in his honor.
