Walter Leo Weeks Sr

Walter Leo Weeks, Sr., born in Loch Lynn Heights on June 18, 1941, went home to be with His Lord on August 8, 2026, at the age of 85, with his wife and family by his side, at home. Walt never moved far from his roots. He was the son of Ira Wheat Weeks and Elma Naomi (Shaffer) Weeks.

After graduating in 1959 from Southern High School, home of The Highlanders, he started his working career at various locations, working full time at Browning's Foodland, where he met the love of his life, Harriett. They were married on June 23, 1962. His working career continued at the HP Warehouse; he then moved to Southern States for 14 years, and then 14 years at Mettiki Coal as a Purchasing Agent, where he retired in 2006.

Walter was a Godly man who accepted Christ at an early age. He was deeply devoted to his family, always striving to set a Christ-like example-not only for them, but for everyone he came in contact with. Most mornings, you would find Walt at his desk, reading God's Word and praying over his family and the needs of those around him.

Walt was deeply committed to his faith and to his church family at Pleasant View Baptist. He faithfully served as Song Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, AWANA Leader, Deacon, and Trustee for many years. His faith was not simply something he professed; it was evident in the way he lived his life and cared for others. Walt was also a very generous man. He freely gave of his time, talents, and resources, supporting many charitable organizations and helping those in need. He taught his children not only by his words, but by his example, the importance of giving, serving others, and faithfully serving in the church.

Walt and Harriett often opened their home to friends and family, hosting countless family reunions and church events. He cherished those times together and often spoke of the second greatest gift in his life: having all of his children and extended family together under one roof.

But the greatest gift to Walt was glorifying Christ in all that he did and seeing his children and grandchildren come to know his Lord and Savior. His greatest desire was that those who followed him would place their own faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and know Him as their Savior.

He had a hardworking nature, and his jovial spirit was known by all. His laughter and light-hearted jokes were a source of joy for all who knew him. He also was well-known in his community for his skilled woodworking, creating pieces that were both functional and beautiful, much to the delight of his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Harriett Jean (Lewis) Weeks, to whom he has been happily married for 64 years; his four children, Walter (Wally) Leo Weeks, Jr. and wife Debbie; Robin Michelle (Weeks) Andrews and husband Keith; Mark Allen Weeks and wife Teresa; and Scott Eric Weeks and wife Sheri; 18 grandchildren, Josiah Weeks and wife Taylor; Tori Tice and husband Conrad; Timothy Weeks and wife Talia; Olivia O'Brien and husband Brady; Joshua Andrews and wife Janessa; Jonathan Andrews and wife Ashley; Javan Andrews and wife Jessyka; Jessica Wright and husband Nick; Juliann Myers and husband Nathaniel; Leesha Gossmeyer and husband Carson; Justin Weeks; Trysta Weeks; Alayna Weeks; Kennedy Eichelberger and husband Stephen; Sydney O'Brien and husband Connor; Reagan Weeks; McKinley Weeks and Isabella Weeks; and 19 great grandchildren; siblings, Isabella Schmidt and Eula Mae Antkievicz and husband Frank. Walter was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Beckman and husband Arthur; James Weeks and wife Lula; Henrietta Mills and husband Robert Sr.; Donald Weeks and wife Dorthy; Richard Weeks; and brother-in-law, Robert Schmidt Sr.

The children and spouses of Walt would like to thank their mom for caring so well for their dad all these years. We appreciate everything you did for dad, loving him, being there for him, and giving him such good care. We know it wasn't always easy, and we saw the love and sacrifice you gave every day.

The family wishes to thank their loving family and friends for their prayers and support given in many ways over the last few months. We also wish to thank the wonderful doctors, home health nurses and therapists, hospice workers, and the two special care-givers who all became like family in his last days.

Friends and Family will be received on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 8931 Garrett Highway, Oakland, MD 21550. A home going service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11:00 am, at the Church, with Pastor Wally Weeks officiating and music led by Pastor Mark Weeks, both are Walter's sons. Interment will be at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, followed by a funeral meal provided by the Pleasant View Baptist Church at the Pleasant Valley Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Pleasant View Baptist Church, in memory of Walter Weeks.
