William "Allen" Strawser, 68, of Eglon, West Virginia, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 12, 2026. Born on April 13, 1958, Allen was the son of the late William "Bill" Strawser and Margaret "Margie" Friend Strawser. He was raised on the family farm on Lantz Ridge in Aurora, West Virginia, where he learned the values that would define his life-hard work, loyalty, and love for family. Allen married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Knotts. What began as young love grew into a partnership that would span nearly five decades. Together they raised a family, built a home, weathered life's challenges, and made countless memories.
Allen spent 35 years working at Fairfax, eventually retiring as superintendent. He took pride in a job well done and carried that same dedication into every area of his life. Allen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red House, Maryland, as well as regularly attending Maple Grove Assembly of God in Eglon, West Virginia.
To know Allen was to know a man who ever seemed to slow down. He was happiest when he was doing something-working on the farm, riding horses, hunting, enjoying poker night with the boys, or simply spending time with the people he loved. He especially looked forward to his annual elk hunting trips to Colorado with Johnny. For his children, some of life's best memories were made on Sunday horseback rides, a family tradition that became a treasured part of growing up. In his younger years, Allen was a standout athlete and local basketball legend. Decades later, people still remembered watching him play. His children grew up hearing the stories and reading the newspaper clippings, proud to call him Dad. His love for sports, especially basketball, became a gift he unknowingly passed on to the next generation. To his grandchildren, he was larger than life. To his children, he was the man who taught them by example-what it meant to work hard, love deeply, keep your word, and show up when people needed you. To countless others, he was simply "Big Al." No words can fully measure the impact he made during his 68 years, nor the emptiness left by his passing. And for Charlotte, he was the love of a lifetime.
Retirement brought a season that Allen and Charlotte had spent decades earning. In the time before his accident, they embraced life together with the same spirit they had shared as teenagers. They traveled across the country, loaded their horses into the trailer, and set off on spontaneous adventures wherever the road led. It was a season filled with joy, companionship, and the simple happiness of being together. Some people leave memories behind. And then there are some people whose absence changes everything. Allen Strawser was one of those people. The measure of a man's life is not found in the years he lived, but in the lives he touched. By that measure, Allen lived an extraordinary life. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every lesson, every laugh, every ride, every hunt, every ballgame, and every moment we were blessed to share with him. We thank God for the blessing of having known him, loved him, and called him ours. We loved him deeply. We always will.
Allen is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte; his children, Chad Strawser and wife Ashley, Leslie Rager and husband Will, and Bridgette Tuttle and husband Randy; his grandchildren, Cameron, Mason, Asher, James, Alyssa, Adrianna, Kaydence, John, Carson, Jax, Haley, and honorary granddaughter "across the road", Emma; his brother, Roger Strawser, and his brother-in-law, Joel Sines.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Sines. Among the many relationships Allen treasured was the special bond he shared with his cousin, Kay. Though cousins by relation, they were more like brother and sister, and rarely a day passed by without a conversation between them.
